Books
Growing up books have always been a big part of life. Not through my choosing though. Reading was always enforced upon me though either school or my family trying to get to do something that would work my brain. So you could only imagine how much I hated books. It wasn't until recently that I began to get more into books and actually read from time to time for my own pleasures.
Newspapers
As far as actually physically holding a newspaper, I do not do so often. There are times that I will be at Starbucks in the morning grabbing some coffee or finishing up some homework before I head to class, when something in the newspaper catches my eye, which then makes me sit down and actually skim through it. But as for and News Apps on my phone I do use often. I only have local news apps like San Jose Mercury News though, the rest are just a bunch of sports apps such as ESPN, NFL Mobile, and my personal favorite Bleacher Reports. I'd say i spend a good amount of my day on those three apps searching and reading about whats going on in the sports world.
Magazines
Not really a big fan of magazines. Like we discusses in class magazines are just a bunch of advertisements and pictures. To me their like picture books. When I pick up a magazine I end up skimming through it in about 5 minutes and only looking at the pictures and not actually reading what was in them.
Movies
Movies on the other hand are a big part of my life. Im a movie person, so I spend a lot of my time at the movie theaters, with my lovely girlfriend of course, who so happens to be into movies as much as me. If we're not at the movies, her, and I are probably at home watching some weird movie we found on Netflix or streaming a movie online. I love movies, so I could sit and watch movies for days.
Audio
Audio is heavily involved in my life. Im a music junkie, thats always keeping up with the latest, and greatest hits. I pride myself on having everyones newest songs, and showing my friends who's going to be the next best thing, or what song will be becoming the next radio hit. Listing to music is what gets me through the day. I work at a casino, so they play music the whole 8 1/2 hours I'm there, not to mention I listen to music on my to work and back home, I even listen to music as I do homework.
Radio
All though I listen to music a lot, I am not a radio fan. To me they are very repetitive with the music they play. They also tend to have a lot of commercials and advertisements which totally kills the vibe when you're into the music.
Television
When i was younger I was really into television. I would always be watching something, cartoons, MTV, BET, or some cool show that was in at the moment. I would even stay up all night watching TV. Now a days though I hardly watch TV, the only times I watch is when a live sport is on, or when my girlfriend wants to watch an award ceremony.
Internet
The internet is life. Everything is on the internet. If you have a question, you ask Google. When you want to talk to friends or family that you may have not contact with you can find them on Facebook, or even shoot them an E-mail. If you missed out on a certain show or Movie and cannot wait until it come out, or on TV again, you can easily find it on the internet. If you wan to keep up with the latest news, you can use the internet to go on specific website. The internet even has books for people to read and download. The internet has EVERYTHING! So yea, I use the internet a bunch.
Major
As of recently I have found my calling. After many classes, and trying out different areas I was interested in, I decided I'd pursue Journalism, sports journalism to be specific. My life plan as of now is to attain my AA at De Anza, transfer to SF State, attain my bachelors there, and then hopefully attaining my Masters at Columbia University. After all those years of school, I hope to one day have a career as a Sports Analysis with ESPN, or NFL Network.
Hi Sergio-
ReplyDeleteI am happy for you that you're planning to major in Journalism! That would be super cool to work for ESPN or NFL network.
I feel the same way as you do about how as a child, we are forced to read books and it takes the fun out of it sometimes. Recently I have also obtained a reading interest on my own time. I also rarely read newspaper and listen to the radio. I also agree with you that "Internet is life." I am actually not a big movie fan, as it is really hard for me to sit still for a full hour and a half and watch one story line. I much prefer TV shows that have a long, drawn out plot to them. Although, I do think it's cool that you (and your girlfriend) have a passion for watching movies. I definitely respect that!
Awesome blog! See you Monday!
Hey Sergio, very cool to hear about what your plans on... Thank you for sharing. I definitely hope that it all works out for you. I know you've been in school for quite some time and it would be awesome to finally see things pay off! Glad that you've finally revealed your calling, I know how tough that can be... Also, awesome to hear your interest in audio and how you take pride in always being up to date with the newest songs and artists. I am the same way, a complete music junkie! And I can definitely agree with you when it comes to how useful the internet is... We use it for everything now! Anyways, great blog. See you in class!
ReplyDeleteHi Sergio!
ReplyDeleteI totally agree that internet has everything. I personally that internet would probably the number one mass media now. Its all in-one. And After hearing how long you been studying at De Anza, I'm happy that you finally decided what to actually do, I know how hard to decide what to take. I hope everything goes well with your plans.
You're one of many students who don't watch TV anymore. I only watch live sports (baseball, specifically). We'll study people's changing TV habits in a later chapter.
